Our purpose is to help to the development of weightlifting as a kind of sport including to the Olympic Sports and to use the potensial of the sportsmen from 35 till 80 years in European, World and World Games held every 4 years.

Thus, an athlete has finished his sport career is able to affirm himself by means of physical training and sport facilities anew. This case not only a sport victory for him, but also is considered overcoming to himself and to the time.

For the first time, two of our master athletes took part individually in European and World championships held in 2006-2007 years. But integration to the marked international organizations and for the purpose of broadening the international sport connections, “Azerbaijan Masters Weightlifting Social Unity” (AMWSU) was registered by the Ministery of Justice on the 30th of December of 2008 and by the verbal agreement of Azerbaijan Masters Weightlifting Federation and on the basis of official letter of the Ministery of Youth and Sport.

Our master sportsmen got achievments taking part in 2009 year in XIX European, World Games and VII Cup of Commonwealth Independent States and again in XX European Championship of 2010 year.

The governing body of MWSU carried out meetings with the officials of European Masters Weightlifting Committee in Sydney – World Masters Games and invited them to Azerbaijan as the guests. Thanks to the close help of the Ministery of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan the officials of the European Committee and the world well-known weight lifters were invited to the IV Open Azerbaijan Championship organized by MWSU on February of 2010 year. On 20 – 28th February interesting seightseeings were organized for the guests in Baku city.

After paying a visit to the grave of the Great Leader – Haydar Aliyev in the Honorary Avenue, the guests had been in the Fund of Haydar Aliyev and wrote down their impressions on the memory book. Morover, the representatives were at the Ministery of Youth and Sport and at the Ministery of Culture and Tourism and had official interesting negotiations with the chiefs of the office and department.

On the 24th of February the head of Executive Board of Sumgait city Vagif Aliyev received the representatives and they were presented gifts. Then, the guests went to the stadium named after M. Huseynzadeh to observe the organized IV Open Azerbaijan Championship.

There was XX European Championship of masters in Linz city of Austria with the participation of 641 athletes from 33 countries on 15 – 22nd of may 2010 year. At the Congress held on the eve of European Championship (19.05.2010) with the participation of 32 states the matter put forward to vote (13 – neutralist, 19 – for favour) for the XXII European Championship to hold in Lankaran city of Azerbaijan and it was accepted.

Connected with this, in order to hold the XXII European Championship in Azerbaijan, the presentation materials have been distributed to the representatives of states by Azerbaijan. Websayt “Lankaran2012” has been opened for the purpose of carry on the work of preparation to the European Championship which would be held in the Lankaran city in 2012.

AMWSU is a member of the World Weightlifting Federation from 2006 year.
